The Yorkshire Media Production Agency was launched by its parent company - Sheffield Independent Film - in 1995 with the aim of fostering and supporting film, television and sequential digital image technology in the region. Sheffield Independent Film is a membership owned organisation providing resources, facilities and services to its members.

YMPA provides a wide variety of services to the film and television industry, working in partnership with regional and national film funders and producers, terrestrial, satellite and cable broadcasters, Arts Organisations, Local Authorities and private investors:

• Production funding for feature and short films intended for the cinema
  

• Development funding for independent production companies based in or working in Yorkshire

• Support for broadcast and multimedia projects.

• Strategic investment to strengthen the media production environment in the region.

• Working with individuals and companies to help them realise their ideas

• Negotiating and brokering production arrangements with programme commissioners, facilities providers and others.

• Arranging trainee and student placements

Yorkshire Media Production Agency works in partnership with Yorkshire Arts, The Yorkshire Screen Commission, Sheffield City Council, Bradford City Council, The British Film Institute and Sheffield Independent Film.

It is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

YMPA has been contracted by Leeds City Council to manage the Leeds Media Development Fund.
