Have you ever dreamt of getting behind the camera or designing special effects? Have you ever watched TV and thought you could make better programs? If so, Sheffield Independent Film are now offering a series of unique part time courses in film and television production that could offer you the chance to become a moviemaker.
For first timers there are taster courses funded by the South Yorkshire Key Fund. Starting on July 3rd. This is an opportunity to try out all aspects of media production: make a mini movie, try your hand at camera operating, sound recording and editing; learn how to put a production together and have a go at directing your ideas - you may discover talents you never knew you had!
If you are a school leaver aged 16 to 18 then it may be that the Media Opportunities Base (MOB) 40 week part time course in digital video production is just what you need to get your career kick started: this year's trainees have made two pop promos for MTV and one documentary likely to be broadcast also. The course is taught by industry professionals and offers the chance to learn all the necessary technical skills needed to make films in a relaxed and friendly environment. Supported by Sheffield Training & Enterprise Council and the SRB fund, the course is not only free, but trainees get a meal and travel allowance thrown in! No previous experience is needed to get on the course, just lots of determination and enthusiasm for films and TV. The course begins in September and places are limited, so ring for an application form as soon as possible.
In August, The Skill in partnership with BMTT, Lovebytes and AMP funded by the National Lottery begins a series of short but intensive weekend courses in media production, covering 16mm and DV camera, directing, producing, scriptwriting, editing, computer animation, lighting, sound recording and sound post production and digital imaging. This is a chance for those who already have some experience to brush up on their skills or acquire some new ones. Using new digital technologies and taught by industry professionals working in the independent sector, The Skill offers a chance to get intensive skill training in as many areas as you want. The Skill also offers participating students a fully funded short film production scheme beginning in January: here’s a chance to get that short film you have been dreaming about off the ground at last!
Courses are heavily subsidised and start at £60 per weekend, discounts are available for those who are genuinely hard up. Places are limited.
